2007 Readers for Life Project

Qwest Pioneers at  Roosevelt School in Faribault

Janet Lozon of the Hiawathaland Pioneer Club presented a 6 week "Power Up to Read" class to a group of Roosevelt Elementary School students in Faribault Minnesota.
Janet and the students used the Power Up to Read program to make items, shirts, photo frames, artwork to bring to life what they had learned.  At the conclusion of the 6 weeks a Showcase event was held where students' parents and families could view their accomplishments through the Power Up to Read program.
That Showcase was used to introduce the "Readers For Life" program to the students, families and faculty present.  The children where pretty surprised to find they could select any book from the display to own and take home without charge!
Both Pioneer sponsored programs, Power Up To Read and Readers For Life, were enthusiastically accepted by the students and families.
