Qwest MN Chapter 18 Telecom Pioneers

QWEST PIONEERS & ST. PAUL EMPLOYEE SPIRIT TEAM
TEAM UP TO SERVE SUNDAY SUPPER AT THE
 RONALD McDONALD HOUSE
On Sunday, April 12, and Nov. 9th Qwest Pioneers partnered with Qwest employee members of the St. Paul Spirit Team to serve a fun kid-friendly supper to families staying temporarily at the Minneapolis Ronald McDonald House.

Event chairperson Pat Jeukens and Spirit Team leader Trudy Omarro worked on planning menus and recruiting volunteers.

Months earlier at a Ronald McDonald House tour Pat Jeukens learned about the opportunities for service groups to prepare and serve meals.  She convinced the Chapter 18 Pioneer executive board to adopt the project and two supper service dates were selected..  A happy coincidence was the St. Paul Spirit Team’s search around this same time for a community project and the two groups saw this supper as one that fit both of their outreach goals.

There were 12 volunteers at this first time supper event.  There were enough tasks for everyone.  Volunteers commented they enjoyed themselves and would do it again.  Residents of the Ronald McDonald House offered their thanks and said they and their children enjoyed the corn dogs, chicken nuggets, tater tots, Jell-O, veggie sticks and it was fun to make their own ice-cream sundaes

The next Ronald McDonald House Sunday Supper date the Qwest Pioneers have selected is November 9, 2008.  Volunteers can start at 2 pm for preparation – or later to just help with serving.  Supper is prepared, served, volunteers eat and clean up and are done by about 7 pm.

Surveys indicate people want to volunteer and are looking for 1 day projects they and their families can volunteer at together.  These suppers can fit that model quite nicely.

If you would like to volunteer for the Nov 9 supper, contact Pat Jeukens at  763-434-3412 or Patricia.Jeukens@qwest.com
